My artistic practice centres upon an investigation into the two components that, traditionally, constitute a painting: the paint and the canvas. In my artistic practice, I am searching for ways to challenge the pain- tings’ emphasis on the visual. I explore potential versions of canvases that do not only assist the painting but has an agenda on its own and, therefore adds haptic dimension to the work.
Subjects that reoccurs in my work are skin and faces. Skin visually distinguishes our embodied and embraced selves from others but, on the other, tactically connects us to others. The tactical connection to skin is crucial in my work as it potentially gives the viewer a sensory, relational experience of my work. I implement the face in my work but more as a concept in itself, a communicative tool than as a connotation to portraiture - at least in its traditional, individualised sense.
